SF Signal unearthed this awesome video from Rod Serling’s “Night Gallery.” The episode, “Professor Peabody’s Last Lecture,” stars Carl Reiner as a prof who finds the Elder Gods “imbecilic” and pays the ultimate price for uttering the Great Hastur’s name. I guess he didn’t know them as well as he thought!

Of all the notoriously lousy NIGHT GALLERY bits written by Jack Laird, I always liked this one the best!
Nice find!
That was a hell of an excerpt from the Necronomicon!
They said that HPL had a nasally, unpleasant voice. I have never been able to imagine such a voice until I heard this rendition of Lovecraft. That is how good old Lovecraft must have sounded, I am sure (if only the actor employed an accent).
The ending was comically stupid, like when the beautiful woman is transformed (somehow) into a chicken at the end of the movie Freaks.
Great post!
post script: Rod Serling looks better in B&W
My favorite part is the complete lack of appropriate reactions from the students. they mostly just look confused. even the ones who do look horrified look like they’re thinking “Oh my god that seaweed/tentacle look totally clashes with his suit”
